I get it. Paying for a newborn photoshoot can feel like a big investment. Especially if you’re on maternity leave and have had your pay reduced quite dramatically for the foreseeable future. It can be all too tempting to whip out a white bed sheet and lay your sleeping newborn in front of it to create a DIY studio shoot in your own home without spending a penny.
But if there’s one thing worth investing in, it’s in a professional family photographer like me.
Having been a photographer for over a decade and running my own successful business for half that time, I feel like I can definitely tell you a thing or two about why the investment into ‘proper’ photography is always, always worth it.
If you’re after some gorgeous family photos that can be cherished for generations to come, booking a shoot with me is worth the investment. Because when you book with me, you’re not just paying for the end photos you receive. You’re also paying for…
1. My expertise As I mentioned, I have been in this business for a long time, and I’ve learnt a lot during my career that has moulded me into the photographer I am today. From posing to positioning, lighting to set ups and everything in between, you’re not just paying for the session you book – you’re paying for years’ worth of knowledge and practice that have really helped me to develop my craft to the best it can be.
2. My knowledge Despite what some people may think, taking a photo is about far more than just pointing the camera at a subject and pressing the shutter button. I have spent years learning about the best angles, managing lighting, editing and everything else that goes into capturing the perfect photo. Most importantly of all, is my knowledge of newborn safety, and how to position them in a safe, risk-free way for images, including how to wrap them correctly. That knowledge alone is worth its weight in gold!
3. My time Each newborn shoot takes around two hours, depending on how settled your little one is. I then spend a long time going through hundreds of images to whittle them down to the final selection, edit them to my signature style and then upload them into a gallery ready to be sent to you. Once you’ve made your final selection, I send them off to be printed before I hand package every order and deliver them. So much love, care and time goes into each session and this is reflected in my prices.
What I’ve listed above rings true for all small, independent businesses. From cake makers to florists, MUA’s to hair stylists and of course, my fellow photographers.
We’ve spent years honing our craft, pouring ourselves into what we love doing and making sure we can really deliver an excellent end result for you that we know you will adore. So whilst it can seem daunting to invest a few hundred pounds into a family photoshoot, when you understand everything that goes on from booking to receiving those premium quality prints in your hand, you’ll understand why it is that you pay what you do.
A photoshoot with me is more than just having your photo taken – it’s an experience, a catch up with a friendly face in a relaxing environment where you and your family can just be and where you leave safe with the knowledge that you’re about to receive some gorgeous family photos that you can treasure for a lifetime. Can you really put a price tag on that?
