A baby’s cake smash session is a lot of fun! It’s an adorable way to mark your little one’s first birthday and I so enjoy shooting them – especially if it’s a baby who I have seen through from Mama's maternity shoot all the way to their first birthday!
But what can you expect from your baby’s cake smash session with me?
Whilst some photographers opt for extravagant backdrops decorated with party props to really highlight the birthday vibe, that’s not what you’ll get from me. In keeping with my style, the shoots will be light, bright and airy. I always give you the option to kickstart the session with some family and/or sibling shots too.
In terms of props, it’s all very minimal – all I need is your baby, the cake and…
I provide your little one with a wooden spoon to smash up the cake with or eat cake from. However, you’re more than welcome to bring your own, as I know you can get some gorgeous personalised wooden spoons for cake smashes, like this one from Etsy.
With me, the cake is included in the price I give you, and I provide it for you, taking that job off your your plate! (Pardon the pun). Working with a local cake maker, I provide you with a stunning naked buttercream cake. I can also make sure allergies are catered for. Whatever your little one leaves can be boxed up and taken home with you as a delicious pre-birthday treat. Enjoy!
It’s expected that during a cake smash, your little one is going to get incredibly messy, probably covering themselves in icing from head to toe. And whilst little baby tootsies coated in icing might seem like an adorable image in theory, no body wants to take said tootsies into their cars once the shoot is over. Don’t panic! Every cake smash ends with a fun little bath – not only to get baby cleaned up, but also to capture some extra cute photos of your little one splashing around. These often make for some of my favourite photos during a cake smash!
Did you know? Cake smashes don’t just have to be first birthdays! Whilst that is traditional, there’s nothing to stop you from getting booked in for a cake smash for a second or third birthday.
